چکیده

In 2004 Mark Landon and his colleagues in the United States published ?Maternal and Perinatal Outcomes Associated with a Trial of Labor after Prior Cesarean Delivery,? which compared the risks of vaginal delivery and cesarean section for delivery of a fetus [2] after a previous cesarean delivery. During a cesarean section, a physician surgically removes a fetus [2] from a pregnant woman through an incision in her abdomen. By the late 1900s, most clinical guidelines viewed attempting a vaginal birth after a previous cesarean delivery as a reasonable option for most women. Yet, physicians often noticed an increased risk of uterine ruptures as more patients underwent vaginal deliveries following previous cesarean sections. As such, many physicians continued to recommend cesarean deliveries for women who had a past cesarean section. Landon and his team evaluated the risks of both delivery methods and published their results in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2004. In ?Maternal and Perinatal Outcomes,? the authors found that there was no significant difference between the risks of vaginal birth after cesarean and repeat cesarean sections, providing more evidence for clinical guidelines recommending vaginal births after cesarean sections.

Outcomes associated with a trial of labor after prior cesarean delivery.

BACKGROUND The proportion of women who attempt vaginal delivery after prior cesarean delivery has decreased largely because of concern about safety. The absolute and relative risks associated with a trial of labor in women with a history of cesarean delivery, as compared with elective repeated cesarean delivery without labor, are uncertain. METHODS We conducted a prospective four-year observa...

Factors associated with successful vaginal birth after cesarean section and outcomes in rural area of Anatolia

Predicting uterine rupture in women undergoing trial of labor after prior cesarean delivery.

Uterine rupture is the most serious complication for women undergoing trial of labor (TOL) after prior cesarean delivery. While rates of uterine rupture vary significantly according to a variety of clinically associated risk factors, the absolute risk for this complication ranges between 0.5 and 4 percent. Previous vaginal delivery and prior successful vaginal birth after cesarean delivery conf...

Vaginal birth after cesarean revisited.

The U.S. total cesarean delivery rate has risen from 4 percent of deliveries in 1950 to 26 percent in 2002. 1 Concerned about the rising rate of cesarean deliveries, and noting that 98 percent of women with a prior cesarean section delivered by repeated cesarean section, a National Institutes of Health Consensus Development Task Force in 1980 recommended that “properly selected” women should be...
